Leena Nair, a British Indian, is Chanel’s first female and youngest-ever CEO. She served as Chief Human Resource Officer at Unilever before being appointed a member of the Unilever Leadership Executive.

Personal Life

Leena Nair was born and raised in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. She completed her schooling at Holy Cross Convent School. Later completed her bachelor’s course at Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli. She also received a gold medal from Xavier School of Management for her performance.

In an interview, Nair stated that one needs to think about marriage before marrying a man because they must support your choices. Kumar had supported her during the early days of her career when he used to commute long distances for them.

Career of Leena Nair

In 1992, she joined Hindustan Unilever as the global senior vice-president for leadership and organization development at their London headquarters.

She moved up the ranks from being a Factor Personnel Manager of Lipton (India) to becoming the CHRO for Unilever in 2016.

Her purpose is “to ignite the human spark for better business and world.”

Early on, she worked in different factories of HUL, which are located in Kolkata, West Bengal; Taloja, Maharashtra; and Ambattur, Tamil Nadu.

Nair’s first line says more than enough about her feelings on this new appointment. She also explained how inspired she is by what Chanel stands for (humanity). “It is a company that believes in freedom of creation, cultivating human potential and acting with purpose.”

Nair also thanked Unilever before she concluded the statement. “I will always be proud of my time at Unilever,” said Nair concluding her remarks on all that they accomplished together (sustainability).
