PlayStation is a very famous video game brand known all over the world. Sony Interactive Entertainment produces the brand. It is a video game brand that consists of five home video game consoles, two handhelds, a media centre and a smartphone.

History and Origin

Playstation is a Japanese video game brand, the brainchild of Ken Kutaragi. He was a Sony executive, later called “The Father of the PlayStation”. The first PlayStation was released in December 1994, in Japan. Very soon it spread out throughout the world.
Until 1991, Sony did not have any direct involvement with the video game industry. It only used to supply parts of other consoles like Super Famicom from Nintendo. At the end of a show in 1991, Sony introduced a Super Famicom that had Green book technology called ‘PlayStation’. Soon after the announcement, Nintendo broke its partnership with Sony. This infuriated Norio Ohga and thus he gave full power to Kutaragi with the responsibility of developing PlayStation. The PlayStation made its debut in America in the year 1996 and got critical acclaim and impressive sales on its release.

Way Towards Success

By 2005 the company sold almost 100 million units and became the first console ever to do that. With the rising and success of the company games like Final Fantasy 7, Crash Bandicoot, and Tekken, also spawned numerous sequels. After the original PlayStation model, Sony then launched the next generation of 64-bit which came to be known as PlayStation 2. The PS2 also offered the ability to play over the internet. its sales dominance over its 64-bit rivals Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo GameCube. PS2 went on to ship 100 million units faster than any of its competitors.
