Kenny Sebastian is an Indian stand-up comedian and musician. He rose to fame through his YouTube channel, on which he posts clips of his stand-up shows, original skits, song covers, and more. Sebastian has performed in over 2000 shows around the world. The Bengaluru-based comedian is one of the top English comedy acts in the country right now. Sebastian also has an Amazon special called Don’t Be That Guy. In 2020, he released another special on Netflix called The Most Interesting Person in the Room. Here’s his success story.

Early life

Kenny Sebastian was born on 31 December 1990 in Kottayam, Kerala. He is a catholic and grew up in Bengaluru. Sebastian’s father worked in the Navy; hence he moved cities frequently throughout his childhood. He finished his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya. Then, he attended the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and graduated with a degree in Visual Arts. In college, he joined theatre and developed an interest in music and comedy. He took part in a stand-up competition and won. This fueled his passion for comedy. 

In addition, he was also very interested in filmmaking. After graduating from college, Sebastian did live music for almost two years. He finally decided to shift his focus towards stand-up comedy. He stated in an interview that his parents always supported him. They never discouraged Sebastian to give up on his dreams. Talking about his struggles, he always wants to be consistent with quality. Comedians can sometimes face writer’s block and Sebastian always tries to come up with the best content. 

Kenny Sebastian’s career

At the beginning of his career, Kenny Sebastian made songs from tweets. It was called #KennySing4Me. This helped him gain popularity on the internet. After this, he started performing stand-up at comedy clubs. In 2016, Sebastian co-wrote and acted in the web series titled Star Boyz. Next, he started a Youtube series called Chai Time with Kenny. He posts clips from his stand-up in which he performs while drinking tea. This series is very popular and helped him gain recognition. In 2017, Sebastian released his first comedy special on Amazon called Don’t Be That Guy. In 2018, he released his own web series called Die Trying. 

Next, He starred in an improvised show called The Improvisers: Something From Nothing. He appeared in this show along with Kanan Gill, Abish Matthew, and Kaneez Surkha. In 2019, he released a sketch comedy show on Amazon called Sketchy Behaviour along with Kanan Gill. Sebastian is also a judge on the show Comicstaan, a stand-up comedy competition. He has a podcast called Simple Ken which features several celebrities. The podcast has gained popularity on streaming platforms as well as on YouTube. In 2020, he released his second comedy special called The Most Interesting Person in the Room on Netflix. Sebastian has toured in countries including the United States, The UAE, and Australia. He has fans all over the world.
