Rukmini Maitra is an Indian Model and Actress. She started her modelling career at a very young age – did modelling for both National and International Fashion shows. She made her acting debut in the year 2017 in Bengali Film Industry and acted as the lead actress alongside famous Bengali actor Dev for the movie ‘Chaamp’.
Rukmini was born on 27 June, 1991 in Kolkata, India . She did her schooling from Carmel Convent School, Kolkata and then completed her graduation from Loreto College, Kolkata. Later she completed her MBA in communication Management from IIM Kozhikode, Kerala.
She was born in a Bengali family, her Late father Soumyendra Nath Maitra was a IIM Gold Medalist. Her grandfather, BN Maitra was an eminent Chief Justice. Her mother’s name is Madhumita Maitra, she has an elder brother named Rahul Maitra.
Rukmini is also rumoured to be dating Dev Adhikari, and has a tattoo on her left wrist saying ‘Dev’.
Rukmini started modelling at the age of 13. “Rab ne Bana Di Jodi” was offered to her when she was in Class 11. She rejected it because she wanted to focus on her studies.
Career
Rukmini Maitra started her modelling career by working in showbiz, she did modelling for many popular brands Globally like ‘Lakme’, ‘Vodafone’, ‘Reliance’, ‘Femina’, ‘ITC’, ‘Royal Stag’, ‘Tata Tea’ etc.
She also walked in Fashion shows like ‘Bengal Fashion Week’, ‘Shaadi by Marriott’. Maitra even walked in ramps from famous fashion designers like Masaba Gupta, Anju Modi, Dev n Nil, Anita Dongre and many more.
At first she did not want to act and because of that she rejected multiple offers but finally agreed and she started her acting career in 2017 with bengali sports drama ‘Chaamp’. Critics and audience both appreciated her work that she did in the span of 4 years in which she was working. Her performance in the film ‘Cockpit’ and ‘Kabir’ got her a lot of limelight in the industry. She worked with multiple famous directors in the Bengali Film Industry, and multiple production houses within a span of five to six years.
She also made her Bollywood debut in 2020 alongside popular Bollywood actors Vidyut Jammwal for the movie ‘Sanak’. Directed by Kanisk Varma, it was an OTT release, it gained a lot of popularity among fans.
Rukmini appeared in multiple Reality shows as a guest and participant in Bengali Television channels like ‘Zee Bangla’, ‘Star Jalsa’ and ‘Colours Bangla’.
Her recent work include “Kishmish” alongside Dev Adhikari which is a teenage love movie, which also shows the importance of parental relations. The movie did pretty well, received lots of love from the teen as well millennial fans. There was a 25 day running party thrown, and the movie has now completed 2 months of successful running.
Awards and Nominations
Rukmini won ‘Calcutta Times Most Desirable Woman’ and ‘The Times 50 Most Desirable Women’ in the year 2017. She won the ‘Best Debut (Female)’ in ‘Jio Filmfare Awards East’ for the movie ‘Chaamp’ and ‘Cockpit’. Maitra also won ‘Times Power Women Most Promising Actor’, 2018 by ‘The Times of India’ and ‘Bengal Film Journalists’ Awards- Most Promising Actress, 2018 by Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards for the films ‘Chaamp’ and ‘Cockpit’. She also got nominated for ‘Joy Filmfare Award’ in the category ‘ Best Actress in a Leading Role’ for ‘Switzerland’. Apart from these she won multiple regional awards for acting.
