One of the most desirable women, Shraddha Kapoor, is an Indian actress and playback singer working in Bollywood since 2010. She is listed as one of the highest-paid Bollywood actresses. Being the daughter of Shakti Kapoor & belonging to Mumbai, it was obvious for Shraddha to rock in Bollywood. She rose to fame with the films Ek Villain, ABCD 2, Baaghi and Saaho.
Early Life
Born on 3 March 1987, Shraddha Kapoor is the daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor and a classical singer. Shivangi Kapoor. Descendant of a Punjabi family, she grew up in a joint family; her parents, elder brother Siddhanth Kapoor and her two aunts. Shraddha attended Jamnabai Narsee School till the age of 15, after which she shifted to the American School of Bombay. There she got Athiya Shetty and Tiger Shroff as companions. Later, the actress enrolled at the great Boston University. There she did major in psychology. But she dropped out in the freshman year for her debut film.
Career
Shraddha Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with the film Teen Patti. She featured alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R. Madhavan. In the character of a college girl, her performance got appreciations. But the film didn’t go well. Nikhat Kazmi commented, “Shraddha Kapoor makes an interesting debut as the edgy youngster who sheds her specs for sleaze, with alacrity.” Her performance gained her nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Up next, Shraddha signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films. Under which, she appeared in the teen comedy Luv Ka The End and was offered the lead role in Aurangzeb. But she refused it and appeared in the romantic film Aashiqui 2. Thereby, Shraddha ended the contract of three films. Receiving mixed reviews for the film Luv Ka The End, she gained Stardust Searchlight Award for Best Actress.
Breakthrough
Shraddha came under the spotlight with the release of the film Aashiqui 2. This romantic musical drama featured her as a small-town girl who aspires to be a great singer. With the help of Rahul (Aditya Roy Kapur), she rises from being a bar singer to an award-winning singer. The film emerged as a critical success with a box office collection of 1.09 Billion. Her performance got appreciated, and she won several award nominations.
Up next, Shraddha got cast in Mohit Suri’s film Ek Villian in 2014. Opposite Siddharth Malhotra, She played the lead role and sang ‘Galliyan’. This was the heart touching love story of a criminal who fights for his wife. It gained amazing reviews from both critics and the audience. They found it as an engaging Thriller film. It successfully collected over 1 billion at the box office. The same year Shraddha featured in Haider and did an item number of film Ungli.
Later, In the following year, Shraddha featured in the dance drama ABCD: Any Body Can Dance. She prepared very well for the film, learnt several dances forms from Prabhudeva and Remo D’Souza. The film was a commercial success with box office earnings of 1.57 billion. The next super hit film that Shradhha gave us was Baaghi in 2016. In this action drama, she got cast as the love interest of Tiger Shroff. Both the film and her performance got broad level appraisals. It collected the total of 1.26 billion.
Down period
By the end of 2016, Shraddha Kapoor featured in the film Rockon 2. Opposite to Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Prachi Desai, She played the role of Jiah Sharma, an introverted singer. The film didn’t go well and received negative reviews. It could not even cover up the investment of 450 milion. Reuniting with Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha appeared in Ok Jaanu in 2017. Its success rate was low to moderate. Up next, She appeared in Half Girlfriend opposite Arjun Kapoor. The film was based on a Novel by Chetan Bhagat. It went well enough and earned 97 crores.
Further Success
The year 2018 saw Shraddha Kapoor in the comedy horror film Stree. Opposite to Rajkummar rao, she played the role of a mysterious, unnamed woman. Rajeev Masand reviews her & says, “she blends in nicely as the alluring out-of-towner with an air of mystery around her”. It made a collection of over 1.7 billion. As a result, The film arises to be her highest grosser till then. Following this, Shraddha gave us many other super hit films. Some of them are the Biopic of Saina Nehwal, Saaho, Chhichhore and Street Dancer 3D. Among them, Saaho, a trilingual action film made in a budget of 3.5 billion, is considered the most expensive film in India.
