Shreya Ghoshal | The Melody Queen of India

Shreya Ghoshal is an Indian Singer and also a playback singer, she has recorded songs in various Indian languages like Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam etc. She is one of the highest-paid playback singers in the Hindi Film industry.

Personal Life

Shreya Ghoshal was born on 12th March 1984. She was born in Murshidabad, West Bengal. She started learning music at the age of four. Ghoshal grew up in a small town near, Kota, Rajasthan. Her father Bishwajit Ghoshal and her mother Sarmistha Ghoshal, she also has a younger brother, Soumyadeep Ghoshal. Shreya’s father is an electrical engineer. He works for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. Her mother is a Literature post-graduate.

She did her schooling at Atomic Energy Central School in Rawatbhata, Later when her father was transferred to Mumbai she did her schooling in Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. Later Shreya did her graduation from SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Mumbai. She took up arts with English as her major.

Shreya got married in 2015 to her childhood friend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya after dating her for almost 10 years. Shiladitya is an Entrepreneur by profession. Shreya gave birth to her baby boy Devyaan in 2021. 

Reality Show

She won the television singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Tv at the age of 16 in the year 2000. Kalyanji convinced her parents to shift to Mumbai. Kalyaniji was a co-judge in the show and he also trained with her for 18 months with Mukta Bhide. 

Career

She was noticed by Film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when she participated in SA Re Ga Ma Pa. She was offered to do the playback singing of Paro played by Aishwarya Rai for ‘Devdas’. Shreya sang a total of five songs for ‘Devdas’. Soon she became famous for her melodious voice. She also won many awards for her debut album. After Devdas, she also worked with various music directors like Pritam, Vishal-Shekhar, A.R. Rahman, Anu Malik, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, and many big names of Bollywood. 

Shreya Ghoshal has done playback singing in various regional languages. Like Bengali, Malayalam, Telegu, Marathi, Bhojpuri and many more. She also appeared as a judge on various Singing Tv reality shows. Some of the Tv shows were Voice Of India Chhote Ustaad. She also judged Indian Idol Junior and Music Ka Maha Muqqabla and many more.

Achievements and Awards

Shreya has a very beautiful voice which is popular across the world. And because of her beautiful voice, she has received many awards. She has won 196 awards and 582 nominations. Shreya has won 5 National awards which include languages apart from Hindi. ‘Bairi Piya’ For Devdas. ‘Dheere Jalna’ for Paheli. ‘Yeh Ishq Haye’ for Jab We Met. ‘Pherari Mon’ for Antaheen. and ‘Jeev Rangala’ for Jogwa. She has also won 7 Filmfare Awards. Shreya has not only won awards for the Hindi language but in several Indian Languages. She has been winning the hearts of the audience and critics since her Sa Re Ga Ma Pa days and continues to do so. 

In the 2010 US Tour, she received a rare honour from the Ohio State, declaring 26 June as Ghoshal Day.
