Tara Sutaria is an Indian actress, singer and dancer who prominently works in Hindi films and Television industry. After struggling for an year, Tara made her appearance in television through the show The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir aired on Dismey India. Later, she appeared in Oye Jassie in the lead role of Jassi in 2013. Her Bollywood debut happened with the film Student of the Year 2, for which she won Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.

Early Life

Born on November 19, 1995, Tara Sutaria is the daughter of Himanshu and Tina Sutaria. Grown-up in Mumbai, Tara belongs to a Zoroastrian Parsi Family of four: her parents and twin sister Pia.

From the very beginning Tara was into dancing. She took trainings in classical ballet, modern dance and Latin American dances at School of Classical Ballet and Western Dance, Royal Academy of Dance, United Kingdom. Also, since the mere age of seven, she has been singing professionally in operas and competitions. She did her graduation in mass media from St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

Career

Tara Sutaria began her career after being a video jockey in Disney Channel India. She continued this association for a considerable period and had two successful sitcoms to her credit. Along with this, she has also been recording music for films , advertisements, Both of India and Foreign countries. Her song “Slippin’ through my fingers” is a part of Ashwin Gidwani Production of Bharat Dhabholkar’s Blame It On Yashraj. Tara played the lead in the musical grease, produced by Raell Padamsee. She has also done solo concerts in London, Tokyo, Lavasa and Mumbai. Apart from this, Tara has been in top seven finalists of “Pogo Amazing Kids Awards” in 2008 and has been recognised for her performance in the shows The Suite Life of Karan & Kabir and Oye Jassie.

Breakthrough

In 2019, Tara Sutaria was selected with another actress for the role of Princess Jasmine in Aladin, an amercian fantasy film. But unfortunately she lost that role to Naomi Scott. Finally, In the same year, She made her Bollywood debut with the coming of age romantic drama film Student Of the year 2. Directed by Punit Malhotra, Tara starred alongside debutant Ananya Pandey and Tiger Shroff. It was a Karab Johar production which stood as a sequel to the 2012 film Student of the Year, narrating the story of college student who competes to win an annual school championship. The film was a big commercial success with amazing reviews for three of the actors. As a result, it grossed over 982 million indian rupees. Tara received her first nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Later in 2019, Tara starred in the action romance film Marjaavaan. She played the character of a mute music teacher, Zoya alongside Sidharth Malhotra, Ritesh Deshmukh and Rakul Preet. Preparing well for the film, She learnt the complete sign language. As a result, The film was totally a big success with gross earnings of 65 crores. But the reviews from critics were not good enough. Namrata Joshi wrote, “Tara Sutaria was reduced to smiling and weeping alternately”.

Present

Recently in 2021, Tara Sutaria starred in the Romantic drama Tadap, a remake of the Telugu film RX 100. In theatres, it released on 3 December 2021 and later premiered on Disney+ hotstar in January 2022. With debutant actor Ahan Shetty, the film was a low success as it had a collection of merely 34 crores over the budget of 27 crores.
Post this, Tara is all set to appear in two big ventures, Heropanti 2, an actioner with Tiger Shroff and Ek Villian Returns, a psychological suspense film, with Arjun Kapoor.
