Revathi Pillai | The success story of Kota Factory’s Vartika

Revathi Pillai is an Indian actress and model. She is known for the role of Vartika Ratawal in the hit web series Kota Factory. The 19-year-old actress appeared in Yeh Meri Family in 2018 as Vidya before being cast in Kota Factory. She likewise acted in Special Ops and Interns. In ‘Special Ops’, she plays Pari Singh. In another series, ‘Interns’, she plays the part of Viveka Chaturvedi. Pillai never wanted to become an actress. Instead, she wanted to become an automobile engineer. When she discovered her passion for acting, she decided to pursue it and follow her dreams. Here’s her success story.

Early life

Revathi Pillai was born in Thane, Maharashtra and completed her schooling in Dav, Thane. While growing up, she did not show any interest in acting and wanted to pursue a career as an automobile engineer. However, after discovering her passion for acting, Revathi decided to become one. Her brother also wanted her to become an actress. So, he used to take young Revathi to auditions for various shows. Revathi is also an avid dog lover.

Career 

Before starring in Kota Factory, Pillai acted in Yeh Meri Family as Vidya. It is a web series about how middle child Harshu balances school, family, friendship, and other challenges of growing up. In addition, she also acted in Special Ops and Interns. Firstly, in Special Ops, she plays Pari Singh. With Kay Kay Menon as the lead and created by Neeraj Pandey, it is a Hindi-language action espionage thriller. Menon forms a team of five agents, to track down the mastermind of the terror attacks which took place in India.

Secondly, in Interns, she plays the role of Viveka Chaturvedi. The web series also stars Ahsaas Channa, her co-star in Kota Factory. Interns revolves around the lives of three young interns of Digital Diva. They come with their own set of drama and the show shows how these girls power through their internship and their lives. The show stars Ahsaas Channa, Revathi Pillai and Rashmi Agdekar as the three main characters. Currently, 17.2k people follow Revathi on Instagram.

The plot of Kota Factory is set in Kota, Rajasthan, which is a hub for coaching centres where students come from all over India to prepare for various entrance exams. The show follows the life of 16-year-old Vaibhav who moves to Kota. It shows the life of students in the city, and Vaibhav’s efforts to get into IIT. Revathi’s character is first introduced in episode 4, season 1. Revathi received praises from critics and the audience for her acting skills in the show. Raghav Subbu, the director of the show said, ‘Things that people liked about ‘Kota Factory’ season one was not just the fact that it’s somebody going to a city and just giving an exam, wanting to go make it to the IIT. There were so many things that we highlighted with the show, like the theme of loneliness.”

Saurabh Khanna, the creator of the show, says that he aims to change the narrative surrounding Kota and IIT preparation in India to a more positive one via the show. In an interview, Pillai said “Like every other audition I got a call from this casting agency, telling me to audition for a web series but they didn’t mention which is the production house or anything. So I went for the audition and they said they will call me within a few days if I get selected. I didn’t really get a call like for the next 2 weeks or something but I was quite satisfied with the audition that I had given.” The second season of Kota Factory was released on 24th September. On 26 September 2021, Raghav Subbu confirmed that the third season is in the works.

Apart from the Kota Factory, Revathi is featured on different YouTube channels. Firstly, FilterCopy, in partnership with Unacademy, featured in the video “School Best Friends During Lockdown,” “Holi Special,” and is mainly famous for the album song “Main Aur Tu.” Secondly, Netflix India was featured in “Why Girl Best Friends are The Best.” Finally, RVJC Media came up with the video “When your best Friend is a Topper.” So From Kota Factory, she kept growing through various YouTube channels with different roles that would bring her some knowledge and help enhance her skills.
