Abhay Deol is a 45-year-old Indian actor and producer. He owns a production house in the name of Forbidden films. Along with that, Abhay is an active philanthropist and supports various NGOs. Most famous of his works include Manorama Six Feet Under, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Dev.D and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Born on 15 march, 1976, Abhay Deol is the son of Ajit Singh Deol, a filmmaker and Usha Deol. Belonging to Mumbai, he grew up in a typical punjabi jat family. He is the nephew of great Indian actor Dharmendra. Abhay attended University of Mumbai for his graduation. But as soon as he realised his passion for acting, he dropped out. Following which he became a part of The City College of New York ( for acting and theatre).
In one of his interviews with Rediff.com, Abhay revealed “At 18, I decided to take the plunge. It took me 10 years because I didn’t want to leave my education to get into films.”
Abhay Deol made his debut film Socha Na Tha in 2005. The film was a romantic comedy with Abhay and Ayesha Takia in lead roles. At the box office, the film performed on average but gained positive reviews from the audience and critics. His second appearance was in the romantic drama Ahista Ahista alongside Soha Ali Khan in 2006. Following year, Abhay’s third film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, a comedy-drama released. With a collection of over 16 crores, the film emerged as a major box-office success. In the same year, Abhay Deol appeared in two more films: Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, a crime film and Manorama Six Feet Under, a thriller. As a result of his excellent performance, he won the Best Actor award and the film won the Best Film award at Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival.
Subsequently, In 2008 Abhay made a sole appearance in the dark comedy film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!. The film received quite well reviews but as a result of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, it could not reach an audience. There was widespread fear of being in crowded places.
The breakthrough role of Abhay Deol came in 2009 when he portrayed the titular character in the film Dev.D. The film was a modern-day adaptation of a classic Bengali romance novel Devdas. The unique visual style, experimental soundtrack, and innovative narrative structure of Dev.D made it seek the attention of a wider audience. Later, He gave a cameo appearance for an Item Number in the film Tera Kya Hoga Johnny.

It won the Best film award and Abhay’s performance gained him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
