Candice Swanepoel is a South African model and philanthropist. She has been the face of Victoria’s Secret for some time now. She became an angel in 2010 and continues to contract with them. In 2016 she was on Forbes’ list as one of the top 10 earning models, coming in at number 8.

Early Life

Candice Swanepoel is the model of South African, Zimbabwean, and Dutch ancestry. She was born to Willem Swanepoel and Eileen Swanepoel in Mooi River, South Africa. Candice’s father is from Mutare, while her mother is a native of South Africa. Her brother Stephen is one year older than she is. When still young, she became an aspiring ballerina dancer. But it was not until 15, when at a Durban flea market, that a scout discovered her. And this led to modeling career success and continued work with Victoria’s Secret.

Swanepoel is fluent in Afrikaans, English, and Portuguese. She learned Portuguese from her Brazilian model boyfriend Hermann Nicoli when they first met in Paris when she was 17 years old, and he turned 23. The couple announced their engagement in August 2015 after dating for four years. They have two sons, born on March 24th, 2016 (Aldous) and December 31st, 2017 (Anacã). Right now, she splits her time between Brazil, where Swanepoel resides with the kids most of the year, and spends much time at home in New York City.

Candice Swanepoel has appeared in advertising campaigns for Tom Ford, Oscar De La Renta, and Givenchy. She’s also been the “face” of Victoria’s Secret since 2007. In addition to appearing in their commercials- she was featured in a 2010 swim catalog with Lindsay Ellingson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Behati Prinsloo, and Erin Heatherton. In 2010, Swanepoel became a Victoria’s, Secret Angel. That year she modeled for the Kardashian sisters’ swimwear line launched in 2010. Later that year, Swanepoel officially opened the first Victoria’s Secret retail store in Canada at West Edmonton Mall. In 2013 she was named this coveted label’s cover model of their famed Swim Catalogue. Later, she wore what is now known as The Royal Fantasy Bra during that same year’s VS Fashion Show. Mouawad created it with 4200 precious gems, including rubies & diamonds in 18-carat gold with a 52-carat ruby.

Later, in 2018, She launched her Tropic Of C range of bikinis. That launch won her Launch of The Year award at the 5th Annual Daily Front Row Awards.

Recent Update:

In 2022, Candice Swanepoel collaborated with the American premium lifestyle brand Alo Yoga. Together, they have launched a collection of essential swimwear. Candice’s brand Tropic of C and Alo Yoga will offer bikinis, one-piece bathing suits, multicolor bandeau tops, and woven hats. Candice stated that she wants the collection to be simple, elegant, and powerful. Candice aims to highlight the female form with unique colors and simple designs. The swimwear collection will range from $70-$150. The designs will be available on Alo Yoga and Tropic of C’s official websites. Moreover, the unique part of the swimwear collection is the woven pieces. Native female artisans have made the pieces in Northern Peru. Through the collaboration, several female artisans got employment, and Candice’s aim to provide education to underprivileged women and children was fulfilled.
