Jisshu Sengupta | One of the most versatile actors in Indian Cinema

Jisshu Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer and anchor who works in the Bengali film industry, he also works in the Hindi and Telegu films. He has also won a national award for his acting. 

Personal Life

Jisshu Ujjwal Sengupta is also known as Jisshu U Sengupta. He won born on 15th March 1997. Jisshu was born in a Baidya Brahmin Family in Kolkata, West Bengal. He is the son of a Bengali actor, Ujjwal Sengupta. His mother’s name is Mukta Sengupta, she is a homemaker and wedding planner. He also has an elder sister, Satarupa Sengupta.

He did his schooling at Julien Day School, Kolkata West Bengal. Later he did his graduation from Heramba Chandra College, Kolkata, West Bengal. He did his graduation in Economics. 

He got married to Nilanjana Sharma, the elder daughter of actress Anjana Bhowmick in 2004. They have two daughters, Sara and Zara.

Career

Jisshu U Sengupta started his career with a television serial ‘Mahaprabhu’ in Doordarshan. He made his film debut on the silver screen with Dinen Sengupta’s ‘Priyojon’ which was a flop at the box office. Jisshu did a few films as a lead but they were not successful at the box office. He then made his debut in the Bengali film industry and went on to play supporting roles in commercial films. He also made his debut in Bollywood with the film Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. Jisshu did not have a very successful start to his career. He then went on to work with Rituparno Ghose, He got critically acclaimed for his performance in Ghose’s films. Jisshu also got many awards for his acting in Ghosh’s films.

He made his Bollywood comeback with a cameo in Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’ which became a massive hit at the box office. Jisshu then acted in Srijit Mukerjee’s Musical drama ‘Jaatishwar’. He was also seen in famous films like ‘Mardaani’, ‘Rajkahini’, ‘Arshinagar’,  ‘Zulfiqar’, etc. 

Jisshu also played a role in ‘Manikarnika’ which was a commercially successful film. In his next film, ‘Shakuntala Devi’ he played the role of Vidya Balan’s husband in the film. ‘Shakuntala Devi’ streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Jisshu also acted in films like ‘Sadak 2’, ‘Durgamati’ and also films in the south.

Television Career

Jisshu also acted in the television show ‘Aparajito’ produced by himself in Star Jalsa. 

Apart from frictional shows, he has been anchoring many sessions of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Bangla. In 2020 he was hosting reality television shows for Star Jalsha, Super Singer and Super Singer Junior. He also Judged the Dance Bangla dance junior.

Achievements and Awards

He made his Bollywood debut with Shyam Benegal’s National Award-winning film Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero in 2004. Jisshugot was honoured with the Best Actor award for the film Abar Aranye in the 12th Kalakar Awards in 2004. He also received a Filmfare Awards East in 2017 nomination in the Best Actor category. Jisshu got a nomination for South Indian International Movie Awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Negative Role for Bheeshma in 2020. He also won West Bengal Film Journalnatis Association Award in 2018.
