Miuccia Prada is one of the most successful luxury designers in the industry. Her success story is about resilience and devotion towards work. She is also a thriving businesswoman. Miuccia is one of the business heads of Miu Miu, a subsidiary of Prada.
Early Life
On 10th May 1949, Miuccia Prada was born in Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Her birth name was Maria Bianchi, but she changed it later in the 1980s. Miucci attended ‘Liceo Classico Berchet’ high school in Milan.
Her biological parents, Luigi Bianchi and Luisa Prada, died when she was small. She has two siblings elder to her, Albert and Marina. She also holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Milan.
Miuccia practiced the art of miming at Teatro Piccolo and performed it for around five years. She was also involved in the women’s rights movement in Milan, Italy.
Career
Miuccia entered the family business in the mid-1970s. The company Prada focused on producing and designing luxury leather bags. Even after being in power for a long time, she couldn’t find her perfect design. But in 1985, she successfully created a line of finely woven black nylon bags.
In 1989 she designed her first line of ready-to-wear collection for women. Later in 1995, she created a menswear line, and her business was on a roll. She launched Miu Miu in 1992. Miu Miu was a brand that was inspired by Prada’s wardrobe. It was all about less expensive clothes and accessories for women.
Earlier in 1978 Prada married Patrizio Bertelli. Her husband looks after the commercial side of the business. Her company deals with the luxury goods like leather, shoes, fragrances, and apparel for both men and women. Later in 2014, Miucci Prada became Co-CEO of Prada with her husband.
Miuccia Prada once said, “You cannot do something just for the money. You have to do things you believe in, and eventually, you will make money.” Similarly, you must not give up or ignore your shortcomings; instead, work on them. It took almost a decade for her to learn to design, but she didn’t give up. She worked hard and owned it. And most importantly, believe in yourself because that’s the key to your success.
