Rakul Preet Singh | Star of South Indian Cinema

Rakul preet is an Indian actress and model working since 2009. She had always dreamt of being an actress.  Rakul works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi cinema. Her acting debut was made with the Kannada film Gilli in 2009. For which she received three filmfare south nominations and a SIIMA Award. Following this, Rakul made her debut in hindi film industry with the film Yaariyan in 2014. She had her first success only with De de pyaar de.

Early Life

Born on October 10, 1990, Rakul Preet singh is the daughter of Kulwinder Singh , an army officer and Rajender Kaur. Belonging to Delhi, she grew up in a family of four, her parents and younger brother Aman Preet Singh. Aman is also into acting and is all set to make his Bollywood debut with the film Ram Rajya.
Rakul studied at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan for her hugher education. Later, she continued to study at Jesus and Mary College for graduation mathematics.

Career

Rakul preet started her journey in modelling at the mere age of 18 while she was still in college. It was in 2009 when she made her acting debut in Kannada Cinema Gilli. Being unaware of how big south Indian films are, Rakul signed the film “to earn a little extra pocket money”.
Sh earned critical appraisal for her role, after which she returned to complete her degree. Following which, Rakul competed in the 2011 Femina Miss India pageant. Along with the four subtitles : Pantaloons Femina Miss Fresh Face, Femina Miss Talented, Femina Miss Beautiful Smile and Femina Miss Beautiful Eyes, she won People’s Choice Miss Indiatimes.

Breakthrough

The year 2013 saw Rakul preet in Puthagam, a tamil film directed by the television personality Vijay Adhiraj. After which, she made appearance in the Telugu film Venkatadri Express. This film was a huge commercial hit. As a result, it earned Rakul her first nomination for Best Actress at 61st Filmfare Awards South.

In 2014, Rakul spotted in the role of Saloni, in the coming-of-age romantic film Yaariyan. Being the directorial debut of Divya Khosla Kumar, the film was a superhit success. It flooded the box office with a collection of 550 million over the budget of 100 million.

Present

In 2019, Rakul preet made a guest appearance as Sridevi in the film NTR: Kathanayakudu. Her second appearance of the year was in the Bollywood romcom De De Pyaar de, alongside Ajay devgan and tabu. The film emerged as a big box office and commercial success with earnings of over 1 billion.

In 2021, Rakul preet made an appearance in the Telugu prison drama Check and Sardar Ka Grandson, a Hindi comedy drama. On October 8, her Telugu film Konda Polam came . Her performance got wide appreciations. Times of India wrote, “Rakul is a delight as Obu and the dubbing for her character seems almost pitch-perfect, fitting right into the skin of the character”.
Following this, In 2022, Rakul came up with an action film Attack, alongside John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez. Next in the queue, Rakul appeared in the Hindi thriller Runway 34, alongside Ajay Devgan. As a result of earning just 36 crores on the budget of 65 crores, It was not a successful venture.

Awards and Nominations

Rakul was nominated for the Filmfare Awards South for the Best Actress category and she won the CineMAA Awards for the Best Actress for the movie Loukyam. She was also nominated for the 4th, 6th and 7th South Indian International Movie Awards for the movies Loukyam, Nannaku Prematho and Jaya Janaki Nayaka respectively as thre best actress, out of which she won the award for Nannaku Prematho.
