Tory Burch is an American fashion designer. She ranked 88th in the list of most powerful women in the world by Forbes Magazine in 2020. Her success story shows that women in the fashion industry can achieve such titles too. She is currently Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of her own brand.
Early Life
On the 17th of June 1966, Tory Burch was born in Valley Forge, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. After her graduation, she moved to NYC, where she started working under Zoran and then became a writer at Harper’s Bazaar. In fact, she worked as a PR agent for Vera Wang & Polo Ralph Lauren.
In 2004, Tory Burch started her own label as a partner with her then-husband Christopher Burch (1996-2008). The fashion empress Tory Burch packaged her signature boho prep style and distribute it to the masses in less than 10 years. Her company has been on the last track, making her one of the youngest female self-made billionaires.
Memorable Works
Burch established the Tory Burch Foundation in 2009. This organization provides an entrepreneurial education program. Also, this program is in collaboration with Goldman Sachs & Babson College. The program helps women entrepreneurs by mentoring and building networks simultaneously.
During the pandemic, her company provided $5 million of clothing, and 3,000 yards of fabric for face masks and hospital gowns, to frontline healthcare workers.
Besides her foundation, Tory Burch has been a board member of renowned organizations. Like the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Breast Cancer Research Foundation & many more.
Tory Burch didn’t go to business school or a design school, but she managed to reach the top. She didn’t even have a grand five-year plan before starting her business. When she started her business she was a full-time mom but that didn’t stop her. Beyond all the odds, she is a boss to more than 2500 employees oversee. Like Tory Burch once said-“If it doesn’t scare you, you’re probably not dreaming big enough.”
