Phoebe Bridgers is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer born on 17 August 1994 in California, United States. She rose to fame with her sophomore album, Punisher, and she got mainstream recognition. Apart from her solo career, Phoebe is also part of two musical groups, Boygenius (with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus) and Better Oblivion Community Center (with Conor Oberst). Phoebe Bridgers is also a four-time Grammy-nominated artist.

Early Life 

Phoebe Bridgers was born on 17 August 1994 in Pasadena, California, United States. Her father was a film and television set builder, while her mother, Jamie, held various jobs, including a receptionist and executive assistant. Phoebe’s parents got divorced when she was 19. She grew up with a younger brother, Jackson.

Phoebe Bridgers started playing guitar when she was 13 years old. She completed her schooling at Sequoyah School and Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She later went to Berklee College of Music in Boston but dropped out after her first-year orientation.

Career Beginnings

After deciding not to attend college and focus on her music career, Phoebe Bridgers’ growing presence in the LA music scene led her to her friendship with producer Tony Berg, who worked with her on her first album for free.

In January 2017, Phoebe released her debut single, Smoke Signals, while she was the opening act for Conor Oberst on his European Tour. In September of the same year, her debut studio album, Stranger In The Alps, came out. The album received the approval of the critics.

Tony Berg produced the album by Ethan Gruska and Rob Moose, all of whom would become consistent collaborators with Bridgers. Bridgers performed on CBS This Morning and the NPR Tiny Desk to promote the album.

Punisher ( 2020-Present)

On 26 February, Phoebe Bridgers released Garden Song with the music video. On 9 April 2020, her second album’s lead single came out, Kyoto. The album, Punisher, came out on 19 June 2020. The album became a huge success and got positive critical reviews.

Phoebe Bridgers garnered four nominations at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Alternative Music Album.

On 12 November 2021, Bridgers appeared on Taylor Swift’s second re-recorded album Red (Taylor’s Version), on the Nothing New track. The song debuted and peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Bridgers’ highest-peaking entry on the chart.

On 8 July 2022, Bridgers released a cover of the 1972 single Goodbye to Love by The Carpenters for the Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack.

Personal Life

Phoebe Bridgers identifies as Bisexual. Her coming out resulted in a falling out between her and her mother. Although they made up, Phoebe’s mother became an enthusiastic advocate for LGBT rights. 

Phoebe dated producer Ryan Adams in 2014 before breaking up, and her song ICU is about him and their relationship. Bridgers has spoken about her struggles with major depressive disorder and anxiety, for which she has sought therapy.
