Born in a lower middle-class family, Sharma rose to stardom with hard work and his unmatched stand-up comedy skills. Today, he is a household name all over the country. Early life

Kapil Sharma was born on 2 April 1981 in the city of Amritsar located in Punjab. His father worked in the Punjab Police as a head hostable while his mother was a housewife. Kapil completed his schooling at Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School, Amristar and Hindu College in Amritsar. Afterwards, he attended college at the Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar. In 1997, his father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2004. During this time, his family struggled financially. To support his family, Sharma started working at a telephone booth. In addition, he also performed in night jagratas to make ends meet. Finally, he decided to shift to Bombay to become a singer.

Kapil Sharma’s career

In 2007, Sharma won The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, a comedy reality television show. Next, he participated in Sony’s Comedy Circus and won six seasons of the show. Due to this, he rose to fame and gained fans. Sharma also hosted Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, a dance reality television show. Finally, in 2013 he launched his own show called Comedy Nights with Kapil. The show consisted of scripted comedy and often, celebrities appeared to promote their upcoming films. In the same year, it became India’s highest-rated scripted TV show. Kapil Sharma received the Entertainer of the Year award at CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards. One time, his set caught on fire and almost burnt down everything. But, Kapil did not lose hope and his production team rebuilt the set.

After a successful three years and due to some differences with Colors TV, Sharma decided to end the show. In 2015, Sharma made his Bollywood film debut as the lead role in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. The film received mixed reviews from the critics and the audience but broke records on the opening day. After Comedy Nights with Kapil, Sharma signed a new contract with Sony TV for his new show titled The Kapil Sharma Show. It received positive responses from the audience. In 2017, his second film titled Firangi was released. Apart from his television and film career, Kapil Sharma is an advocate for cleanliness and animal rights. He was nominated in 2014 for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Narendra Modi to spread awareness about hygiene and other related issues. In 2016, Forbes India ranked him at number 11 in their Celebrity 100 list.
