Anupam Roy | From 9-5 job to a successful Singer

Anupam Roy is an Indian Singer, composer and Guitarist from Kolkata, West Bengal. He primarily works in the Bengali film industry and Bollywood. He has a huge fan following in West Bengal. 

Personal Life

Anupam Roy was born on 29th March 1982. He was born in Kolkata, Wes Bengal. Roy was born in a Bengali family. He started singing at a young age. Anupam learned singing from her mother and his first guru, her mother Madhumita Roy is herself a singer. He also got his introductory tabla lesson from her. He also used to experiment with his father’s Tarang. 

Anupam did his education at St. Paul’s Boarding and Daycare School, Kolkata and later from MP Birla Foundation, Behala, Kolkata. He did his graduation from Jadavpur University, Kolkata with B.Tech in electronics and communication. Anupam was also the gold medalist from his batch at Jadavpur University.

He joined Texas Instruments India and started working as an Analog Circuit Engineer. Anupam was residing in Bangalore for his corporate job. He used to stay in Bangalore from 2004 to 2011.

Career

Anupam was doing pretty well professionally as an Analog Circuit Engineer. But was not enjoying his life because he always wanted to become a Singer or Composer. So after working for seven years in the corporate industry he started looking for ways to fulfil his forgotten dream. Anupam never stopped creating songs, he used to create songs since his college days. But he kept on trying to get a chance to sing and record his own albums. 

2010 became a turning point in his life, as his two songs were used in the film ‘Autograph’ by his friend Srijit Mukherjee. Both the songs ‘Amake Amar Moto Thakte Dao’ and ‘Benche Thakar Gaan’ became extremely popular and the audience went crazy on them. Roy finally saw his dreams getting fulfilled and he started getting more offers for films in West Bengal. He then quit his Engineering job in Bangalore and came back to Kolkata. Roy started working as a lyricist, and singer full-time. He worked in the Bengali film industry for almost five years. Anupam produced some fantastic music and music albums which are tremendously loved by the audience even today.

Anupam made his Bollywood debut as a Music Director in 2015. He made his first Bollywood Album for Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. The ‘Journey Song’ became a clear Hit and got lots of appreciation.

Roy appeared in the fourth season of Coke Studio and recreated the traditional Bengali Folk song ‘Moner Manush’ He collaborated with Babul Supriyo. 

Achievements and Awards

Anupam has achieved alot of success from his talent and hardwork. He has given some melodious music to the audience. He has received quite a few awards for his work which includes. 4 Filmfare awards, 1 National Award, 5 Mirchi Music Award, 3 Anondolok Award, 6  Tele Cine Awards, 3 Anandalok Awards, 2 Bengal Film Journalists Association Award. He also got ABP Ananda Shera Bangali Award two times, once as the best new comer and once for his contribution in the field of music. Apart from this he has also won various awards and nominations in his name as a Singer, Music director, Song writer.
