One of the famous personalities of Television industry, Ekta Kapoor is a film producer and director. She works prominently in television industry and produces soap operas. Ekta is the creative head of Balaji Telefilms Limited. Apat from that she launched ALT Balaji in the year 2017. Most popular of her shows include, Pavitra Rishta, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Kundali Bhagya, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Naagin.

Early Life

Born on June 7, 1975, Ekta Kapoor is the daughter of Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor. She has grown up in a family of four: her parents and younger brother Tusshar. He is also a Bollywood actor. Ekta Kapoor attended Bombay Scottish School, Mahim for her primary and high schooling. Later she enrolled at Mithibai College for her graduation.

Career

At the mere age of Seventeen, Ekta Kapoor begins her internship with the filmmaker Kailash Surendranath. After working there, she obtained finances from her father and opened her own production company. Under Balaji Telefilms’ name, Ekta’s company produced Indian soap operas, reality shows and web series. At first, Ekta’s six projects failed, and she had to bear the loss of 50 lakhs. Her first success was the sitcom Hum Paanch in 1995. It featured on ZeeTv and Zee5.

Breakthrough

In the year 2000, Ekta Kapoor brought out the television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The show aired on Starplus and ran for eight consecutive years. This drama showed the story of an ideal daughter-in-law. It became one of her most successful ventures. The series broke all the records and earned the highest TRPs of the year. Up next, her show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki arise as a great success. The television series featured on Starplus for eight consecutive years. Later, Ekta released six more successful shows, including Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Sahelii, Kohi Apna Sa, Kaahin Kisii Roz, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kahiin To Hoga and Kasamh Se. Among which Kasautii Zindagii Kay was the longest-running and gained critical appraisals all throughout. As a result, Ekta Kapoor earned the title of title of Best Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001.

In July 2001, she worked on more than 30 hours of television shows per week. Among the total 34 television shows, 20 became the most famous and loved. Her performances are featured on the major Television channels, StarPlus, ZeeTv and Sony. As a result, her turnover rose up to 35 crores in 2000-01

Further success

Later, Ekta produced more than 130 indian television shows. Most famous of which include Pavitra Rishta, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Jodha Akbar, Naagin, Kundali Bhagya. These shows ran for a long period and gained love from the audience. Because of all these successful ventures, Ekta Kapoor gained the title,”The Queen of Indian Television”.

Afterwards, Ekta tried her luck in Bollywood. She began with producing her first film Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta. Following which, in 2003 and 2004, she produced the movies Kucch To Hai and Krishna Cottage. Both were based on supernatural themes.
Looking into her recent works, Ekta has produced several series on her digital app ALTBalaji. Also, she gained the great award Padma Shri in 2020 for her art field works.
