She grew up in a joint family, and now she lives with her mother, Jasmin Tanna, who is very close to her; her father, Kartik Tanna, passed away due to prolonged illness in October 2012. Tanna has a younger sister named Grishma Kadam.
Tanna completed her schooling at Government Girls High School, Mumbai. After this, she did her graduation from Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai. Karishma started her career with the famous television soap opera serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2001, playing the role of Indira. Her debut serial gave tremendous output and various other opportunities. Further, as lead actress featured in Kahi To Milenge (2002) as Tanisha, Paalkhi (2005) as Palak, Viraasat (2006) as Natasha, Jaane Pehchaane Se Ye Ajnabbi (2010) as Avni in Star One’s, Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo (2010) as Kiran, Manshaa, Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, Koi Dil Mein Hai as Krutika, Shararat, Kkusum, and many more.
Not only with positive roles but also with negative roles, she impressed her fans in Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, playing the negative part of Ayesha. And with a long gap, she featured in a serial again as a comeback in May 2018. Tanna played the cameo role of Ruhi in Colors TV’s popular supernatural series Naagin 3. Eventually, she played the lead role in Ekta Kapoor’s Qayamat Ki Raat as a Gauri serial.

Karishma made a Bollywood movie debut in 2005, with a movie name called Dosti: Friends Forever, playing Nandini Thapar. Tanna has also acted in several television advertisements, including Stayfree, Lifebuoy, and Nirma. Further, in September 2013, Grand Masti, a Bollywood romantic comedy and a sequel to April 2004 film Masti was released in which Tanna starred as United.
She made a special appearance in Rajkumar Hirani’s film Sanju and Gollu Aur Pappu as Shalini. And appeared in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari in the song “Basanti .”Recently, she acted in Lahore Confidential as Yukti in 2021. Not only in the Hindi industry but also featured in the sandalwood industry with the movie I Am Sorry, Mathe Banni Preethsona as Chetana.
She participated in stage shows like Comedy Circus, Comedy Circus Maha Sangram, Zara Nachke Dikha, and Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket. Later, Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout in 2010, Imagine TV’s Meethi Choori No one, and Kaho Na Yaar Hai in series years. Furthermore, Tanna also hosted shoes such as Kaante Ki Takkar, Comedy Champions, and India’s Magic Star.

In the show, which is majorly known for its controversies, Tanna was part of Bigg Boss 8. She spent four months inside the house and became the 1st runner-up. From participation to judging the show, she Considered evaluating BIG Magic’s reality show Big Memsaab along with Sambhavna Seth and Pritam Singh. In 2020, she participated in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 and emerged as the winner.

Then they got engaged, but later, they separated due to unknown reasons. Finally, giving a full stop to all love story dramas, she engaged and married Varun Bangera on 5 February 2022.
2016 and 2018 won Zee Gold Awards in the category of Most Fit Actor (Female). She also won a reality show trophy, among which she participated. She won the Star Parivar Awards in the year 2018 and also won The Mumbai Achievers Awards in the category of Style Diva of the Year in 2020.
