Founders

Sarah Staudinger

On the 28th of January 1989, Sarah Staudinger was born in Los Angeles, California. She comes from a Christian background. Her father, Walter Staudinger Sr., belongs to Europe, whereas her mother, Joanna Staudinger, is a Californian. Sarah’s father worked in the real estate field; in contrast, her mother owned a fashion label. As a child, Sarah grew up around fashion. Her mother had inherited a shoe line from her parents, and her father was inclined to fashion as well. For her studies, she attended The New School in New York. Sarah took fashion courses at the Parsons School of Design to learn about fashion.

Initial Years in Fashion Industry

While studying at The New School, Sarah got the opportunity to be an intern at Men’s Vogue. In 2011, after completing her studies, she joined Reformation. Reformation is a highly sustainable, gently priced, and eco-friendly brand. The brand gained a cult following within a few years of launching. In Reformation, Sarah worked as a product designer, content creator, and fashion designer. While working with the company, she noticed a gap in the fashion industry. Sarah felt there weren’t trendy enough, timeless, accessible, and affordable clothing lines in the market. As a result, she decided to create Staud.

George Augusto

George Augusto is a Peruvian director, producer, and artist. He co-founded Staud with Sarah Staudinger in 2015. The duo worked toward making Staud accessible to contemporary women. George initially planned to make Staud an incorporate customization brand. However, he and Sarah soon realized that people need more than customizable clothing. As a result, both worked on designing trendy, sustainable, and retro-inspired clothes and accessories.

Establishment of Staud

In 2015, Sarah and George built a business model for customizable clothing. The duo created a web portal through which people could customize jumpsuits, trousers, dresses, skirts, tops, and more. After the launch, the brand gained attention from several customers that wanted to design their clothes in a different style. The products took two weeks for shipment. The best part about the brand was that the products were also returnable after customization. Moreover, Staud used dead-stock fabrics in creating most of its products. Consequently, people started loving Staud’s innovative and affordable range of clothing and accessories.

2018-Present

Within three years of launching, the brand started gaining a cult following. From local Californians to A-list celebrities, everyone loved the zero-waste, accessible, and highly sustainable clothing concept of Staud. The brand offered endless customization options to its customers. From chic collections to stand-alone pieces, Staud covered it all. Staud’s distinct point of view and idyllic designs made it extremely popular among young women. By 2019, the brand became a major player in the accessories department. In the same year, the brand debuted its footwear line. The line gained immense popularity because of its affordability, comfort, trendiness, and luxurious designs.

In 2020, Staud collaborated with one of the most prominent footwear brands of the decade, New Balance. The fashion giants launched a 24-piece collection. The exquisite collection consisted of everything from sneakers to jumpsuits. The sneakers gathered immense popularity by their representation of the ultimate courtside style. From Olivia Wilde to Katie Holmes, everyone loved the innovative yet classic collaboration of New Balance X Staud. Recently, the brand collaborated with German footwear giant Birkenstock. They launched a limited edition line of products that included ready-to-wear apparel pieces, sandals, handbags, and more. The complete collection ranged between $160 to $500.
