Terence Lewis | Success story of the Indian choreographer

Terence Lewis is a contemporary dancer and choreographer who specializes in Indian dance. He’s famous for his role as a choreographer and judge on Dance India Dance, seasons 1, 2 & 3 (2009–2012). In addition to his work with Dance India Dance, he holds workshops in Mumbai and abroad.
Early Life
Terence Lewis was born on 10th April 1975 in Mumbai. He studied at St. Theresa’s Boys, High School, and St Xavier’s College before graduating from IHM Mumbai- formerly known as Dadar Catering College–with a degree in theatre arts. His training includes jazz, ballet, and contemporary dance, which he learned while studying at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (New York)and Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance (NY).


His partner is from India, studying engineering and schooled at Air Force Bal Bharti School New Delhi.
Career of Terence Lewis
Lewis is a choreographer who has worked in Bollywood films, stage shows, and music videos. He won the 2002 American Choreography Award for his work on Lagaan with Saroj Khan and Raju Khan.
Lewis has also choreographed various Indian contemporary performances. He has even trained for Broadway Westend musicals and feature films, which have been immensely popular among audiences around the world.
He is the first Indian to receive the danceWEB Europe Scholarship, representing India in Vienna, Austria. Lewis has choreographed international stage and Bollywood shows while also judging a celebrity couple’s dance competition on TV.


Terence Lewis has previously been a judge on Dance India Dance. In the first season, he and his contestant Alisha Singh came in second place, whereas in the second season, Shakti Mohan won. In the third season, Pradeep Gurung came in second place behind Rajasmita Kar.
Lewis was on the judging panel of Dance India Dance’s third season with Remo D’Souza and Geeta Kapoor. The most shocking event during the auditions was when his former assistant performed without notifying him. While he did not judge this performance himself, he let it go ahead anyway as both judges selected him to advance despite this.
Other Works
In the third season of Colors TV’s Fear Factor, Priyanka Chopra hosted Khatron Ke Khiladi. The game put them to compete in the 3rd Level for 13 New Boys in Copacabana Brazil, and he was kicked out early on at 11th Episode.


He has choreographed Bollywood films like Lagaan, Jhankaar Beats, and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Terence also worked on musicals, stage shows, other ads, music videos, and international dance competitions. He starred in a DJ Hot Remix Vol 3 called Badan Pe Sitare (Remix of an old song by Harry Anand).
Terence Lewis is a judge on India’s Best Dancer, winning the 2017 Staar Parivaar Award for Favorite Judge. He choreographed Disney India’s first theatre production, Beauty and the Beast. Presently he is one of the judges on Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati and actress and Nach Baliye 5 judge Shilpa Shetty and film director Farah Khan. Lewis has recently come up with his first music video, “Tenu Meri Umar Lag Jaave” by Rahul Jain, where they both have performed superbly well as singers.
