Yohani | Success story of Singer from Sri Lanka



Social Media has provided the platform for many to showcase their talent online. It has provided people with a wide range of opportunities that anyone can post and view content across the globe. Many people, most importantly, who love music would have heard the name “Yohani” on Instagram. Initially, she was into modeling. Later, created space for herself in the Music Industry.


Yohani Diloka de Silva, popularly known as Yohani, was born on 30 July 1993 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She is the older daughter of former army officer Major General Prasanna de Silva and Dinithi de Silva . Both Yohani and her sister, Shavindri, have been to many districts of Sri Lanka as their father worked in army.

She did her schooling at Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Completed BSc in Supply Chain & Logistics Management (2013-2015) at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. She then went to CQUniversity Rockhampton North, Australia, to complete her master’s degree in Professional Accounting (2017-2018).

Yohani was active in sports during her school days. She was a wushu fighter and water polo player at school.


Yohani came into limelight on returning to Sri Lanka, in march 2019, with the release of her famous Rap Cover Song “Deviyagne Bare” in 2018.  Prior to this she was a popular model in her country. Gradually, she got popularity after joining the Music troupe Pettah Effect that she co-founded with Dilnjan .

Her musical career took momentum with her debut solo song “Aaye” premiered in August 2020. She then signed for Red Bull Records and then became the Brand Ambassador for two years from 2020 for ‘Prima Kottu Mee’ which was her first significant brand endorsements. Next, she collaborated with Chamath Sangeeth  for Sitha in September 2020. Her third song created a sense of emotion, who endured a bad phase of 30-year war on the island.


Television Appearances

Yohani peaked to the top of viewership with 200 million views for a YouTube video “Manike Mage Hithe” cover solo song in May 2021 and again featured for this same song in Colors TV’s Quiz Show “The Big Picture” with Ranveer Singh.   Likewise, she performed in the 15th season of the famous Bigg Boss,  with Salman Khan.  By then she had also completed her debut Sinhala album that features twelve songs. Also, she began her debut overseas tour as a music artiste to Hyderabad in India in October 2021 to perform a Live concert with her band.

Her Musical Numbers

Her popular releases in 2020 are the solo songs of “Rawwath Dasin”, “Sitha Dawuna”, “Haal Maasa“ (Viyole Viyole), “Merry Christmas Baby”.  In 2021 there were “Awidan Yanawa”, “Ithin Adare”, “Moving On”.

For the year (2022) she performed with Tehan Perera for the song “Gajaman Nona” a Sinhala song.

Consequently, she entered the Bollywood Filmdom with her song “Shiddat” in 2021 for the and continued singing this year 2022 for the film Thank God singing the Hindi remake of her song “Manike Mage Hithe“.


Yohani received the Raigam Telee’s award for “Mashup song of the year” in 2019. Evergreen celebs of Bollywood like Big B, Madhuri Dixit made reels on her song. Also, she got featured on cover of top magazines in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, she was honored by Dr. Revanth Vikram Singh (Director of Indian Cultural Centre) at High Commission of India, Colombo.
