Charlie Puth is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was born on 2 December 1991 in New Jersey, USA. Charlie became famous through the singing videos that he uploaded on YouTube. He is famous for songs like See You Again, One Call Away, and We Don’t Talk Anymore with Selena Gomez.
Early Life
Charlie Puth was born on 2 December 1991 in Rumson, New Jersey, USA. His mother, Debra, was a music teacher who also wrote commercials for HBO, and his father, Charles Puth, was a builder and a real estate agent.
When Charlie was two years old, a fatal dog bite incident gave him a permanent scar on his right eyebrow. Charlie Puth’s mother introduced him to classical music and taught him the piano at four. The Count Basie Theatre hired him to play in a Charlie Brown production. In grade six, Charlie went door to door selling a Christmas album called Have a Very Charlie Christmas that he had recorded and produced, making $600 in sales.
Charlie Puth went to Cross Holy School, Rumson, and Forrestdale Middle School and graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 2010. After that, he went to Berklee College of Music and majored in Music Production and Engineering. Charlie became a college graduate in 2013.
Career Beginnings
In September 2009, Charlie Puth started his own YouTube channel, Charlies Vlogs, which uploaded comedy videos and acoustic covers. In 2011, he won an online video competition sponsored by Perez Hilton, Can You Sing?, with a version of Adele’s Someone like You, which he performed with Emily Luther.
Ellen DeGeneres got impressed by their performance and signed them both to her label known as Eleveneleven. In December 2012, Charlie released a promotional single, Break Again. On 25 January 2012, Charlie Puth and Emily Luther performed Need You Now by Lady Antebellum on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Charlie left Eleveneleven in late 2012.
Breakthrough
In 2015, Charlie Puth got with APG/ Atlantic. In February of the same year, he released his debut single, Marvin Gaye, with Meghan Trainor. The single has been certified 2× Platinum in Australia, topped the charts in New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, and peaked at number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Charlie Puth wrote, and co-produced See You Again with Wiz Khalifa, a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker. The song peaked at number one on the Hot 100 chart for 12 non-consecutive weeks. The song was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Song Written for Visual Media. It was also shortlisted for the Song of the Year for the BBC Music Awards and got a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
Albums
Charlie Puth’s debut album Nine Track Mind came out on 26 January 2016. The first single from the album was One Call Away, and it came out on 20 August 2015. The album debuted at number three in the United Kingdom. The album itself peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200.
On 21 April 2017, Attention was dropped as the lead single from Charlie’s sophomore album, Voicenotes. He also collaborated with One Direction’s Liam Payne on Bedroom Floor. Charlie was the co-producer of the song and gave backing vocals.
Charlie Puth’s third studio album, Charlie, will come out on 7 October 2022. Light Switch came out as the lead single on 20 January 2022. Another single, Left and Right, featuring Jungkook of BTS, came out on 24 June and peaked at number 22 on the Hot 100.
