Chris Martin is the lead vocalist and pianist of Coldplay. He and Jonny Buckland founded the legendary band in 1996. As a part of Coldplay, Chris has won seven Grammys and nine Brit Awards. Early Life

On the 2nd of March 1977, Christopher Anthony John Martin was born in Exeter, Devon, England. His father, Anthony John Martin, worked as a chartered accountant. In contrast, his mother, Alison Martin, is a music teacher. His father is English, and his mother comes of Zimbabwean descent. Chris has four siblings. He is the eldest of them. From an early age, Chris was inclined toward music. He was fond of playing the piano. After mastering the piano, Chris started learning to play the guitar. For studies, he attended the Hylton school. Later, he joined the preparatory Exeter Cathedral School. While studying at the Exeter Cathedral school, Chris’ passion for music grew. By the age of fifteen, he became a part of several bands.  After that, he went to Dorset for further studies. In Dorset, Chris attended the Sherborne School. Around the same time, he became friends with Phil Harvey. After completing high school, Chris moved to London.

Beginning of Career

In London, Chris joined University College London. At the time, he was staying at Ramsay Hall. In 1996, during the orientation week, he met Jonny Buckland. The two became friends. For the rest of the year, they planned on creating a band. Finally, by the end of 1996, they formed Pectoralz. In 1997, they started writing songs. Chris and Jonny used to practice every night. In Pectoralz, Chris was the vocalist, and Jonny was the guitarist. Later, Guy Berryman and Will Champion joined Pectoralz. Guy became the bassist, and Will became the drummer. After Guy Berryman joined the band, the band’s name changed to Big Fat Noises. Later, after Will’s involvement, the band became Starfish. A few weeks later, they all agreed upon naming the band ‘Coldplay.’

In 2000, the band recorded their debut album, Parachutes. The album gained worldwide recognition. The single ‘Yellow’ from the album garnered highly favorable reviews. Chris became one of the music industry’s rising stars with the album. Simultaneously, he started collaborating with other artists. In 2005, Chris joined hands with renowned singer Nelly Furtado. Along with Timbaland and Nate Hills, he wrote the track “All Good Things (come to an end).” The following year, he worked with legendary American rapper Jay-Z. In the same year, he collaborated with Kanye West.

By the end of 2006, Chris’ band Coldplay had released three successful studio albums. He had become one of the most significant singers in the world. 2008 marked the release of Viva La Vida. It is one of the most successful albums by Coldplay. The album garnered worldwide recognition. Through the album, Chris became one of the brightest vocalists in the music industry. The following year, Chris and his band members traveled to Japan for the first time. The band’s popularity had surpassed everyone’s expectations. Later, he collaborated with talented artists like Avicii, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and Selena Gomez. By then, Coldplay had achieved historical success.
