Michael Saul Dell is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the founder, CEO, and chairman of Dell Technologies. Dell is one of the largest technology companies in the world. According to Bloomberg, Dell is the 20th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of US$60 billion. From his teenage years, he did several part-time jobs to earn money. In 1992, at the age of 27, Dell became the youngest CEO to have his company enter Fortune magazine’s top 500 corporations list. Early life and career
Michael Saul Dell was born on February 23, 1965, in Houston, Texas. His father was an orthodontist while his mother worked as a stockbroker. At the age of eight, Michael applied to take a high school exam in order to enter the business world early. In addition, he also bought his first calculator at the age of seven. At the age of fifteen, Michael bought his first computer, an Apple II. Soon, he disassembled the computer to see how it works. From a very young age, Michael was interested in computers and technology. During his teenage years, he did several part-time jobs in order to earn money. He then invested the money in stocks and precious metals.


Dell’s parents wanted him to become a doctor. To please them, he studied pre-med at the University of Texas in 1983. During his high school days, Dell sold subscriptions to the Houston Post. He continued doing so in college. Rather than making cold calls, he target specified the population and earned $18,000. Later, he also hired employees. After earning a profit of $200,00 in his first year, Michael Dell dropped out of college at the age of 19. During his freshman year at college, he sold upgraded kits for PCs. In 1984, he registered his company called “PC’s Limited”. In the same year, he changed the name to “Dell Computer Corporation” and moved to North Austin.

Michael Dell became the youngest CEO to have his company enter Fortune magazine’s top 500 corporations list in 1992. In 1996, he started selling computers through the web and also launched its first servers. Soon, the company made around $1 million every day. The company became the world’s largest PC maker in 2001. With Michael’s hard work and dedication, he built one of the top companies in the world. Today, Dell’s products include computers, smartphones, servers, televisions, computer security, and more.
In addition to being a businessman, Dell is also a philanthropist. He and his wife set up the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation which mainly focuses on urban education, childhood health, and more. By 2011, the foundation donated more than $650 million towards children’s issues in the United States, India, and South Africa. Dell also donated $1 billion to his foundation.
