Nitin Godse is an Indian businessman and the managing director of Excel Gas and Equipments. Born in a low-income family, Godse had a difficult childhood and worked several odd jobs to support his family. Today, his company has set up pipelines for clients across the country and also the Middle East with an annual turnover of Rs. 50 crores. Godse faced several challenges while growing up but worked hard to make his dreams come true. Here’s his inspiring success story.
Early life and struggles
Nitin Godse was born in a small village called Akole in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. His father worked as a salesman in a local store and earned a meager wage of Rs. 400 per month. To support his family and his education, Godse also started working at a very early age. Since sixth grade, he worked at the nearby farms, cut rocks, and dug wells for Rs. 40 per day. After graduating from school, he tried to enter the poultry industry but failed. Later, he attended college and graduated with a B. Sc. degree. After college, Godse started working as a supervisor at Orkay Industries and then at Technova Imaging System.
Godse soon realized that an MBA would help him get more job opportunities. Hence, he attended the Institute of Business Management and Administration in Pune and used his savings to fund his education. After graduating with an MBA in 1995, Godse joined an agro-based company that sold packaged vegetables. Unfortunately, the company shut down and he was left jobless. In 1996, he got an offer from a broker who invested some money into a similar type of business. Nitin worked all day to deliver vegetables. After six months, his boss denied giving him a promotion and Godse went into depression. This was a turning point in his life.
Excel Gas and Equipments
After two months, Nitin Godse started working as a manager at Span Gas. The company dealt with the domestic gas consumer industry. During his time at Span Gas, the company’s turnover rose from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs. Soon. Godse decided to start his own company. In 1999, he founded Excel Engineering after borrowing Rs. 10,000 from his father. He got his first big order in 2000 and after that, there was no looking back. His company started getting more and more orders from across the country. From only three employees in 2000, his company had over 60 employees in 2008.
Today, Excel Gas and Equipments Private Limited is located in Mumbai with an office space of 2000 square feet. Godse’s company manufactures gas cabinets, gas detectors, gas handling systems, and many more. It provides pipelines to customers across India and also the Middle East. In addition, his company also has an office in Dubai. Godse aims to have a turnover of Rs. 500 crores by the end of 2022. From earning Rs. 40 by digging walls to building an Rs. 50 crores business, Nitin Godse is an inspiration to many.
