“Believe in miracles. I have seen so many of them come when every other indication would say that hope was lost. Hope is never lost.”-Jeffrey R. Holland
Life is a tale of miracles happening every day; we somehow fail to notice them. Look around you; you have a shelter over your head, food to eat and some loved ones to wake up to. Isn’t life a miracle itself? Appreciate what you have because not everyone is fortunate enough. Today’s article is a “miracle story,” of going from rags to riches, about Billionaire barber, Ramesh Babu.
Childhood in poverty
When he was just 7 or 8 years old, Ramesh Babu’s father passed away. He left his wife and three kids with a saloon shop. Soon, the family lost all their savings. They put up the shop on rent and his mother started working as a domestic help to generate some income.
By the age of 13, Ramesh Babu took up the job of delivering newspapers to support his mother’s small income. Although he was good in academics, but because of financial stress, he couldn’t continue his studies. He dropped out of school to run the barbershop himself.
Soon enough, the barber shop started thriving because of his entrepreneurial approach towards the business. He hired two workers to cut people’s hair because he himself was not a trained barber. One day, both of his workers were absent and he had to give a customer a haircut himself. He did a pretty good job at it and he realized his natural talent in the field of hairdressing. After taking up some training, he started giving haircuts on his own too and the business became even more successful.
Ramesh Babu was always fond of cars, but could never own one. After he had saved enough money out of the saloon to finally own a car, partly financed through a loan, he bought a Maruti Omni. Since the car wasn’t of much use, he casually started giving it out on rent to people who needed it. Later, realization dawned upon him, that it could be a good source of income for the family. This is when he got in the business of renting out vehicles.
Journey to become rich
He started with renting out cars as taxis. After a while, he learnt that the competition in the segment is high. Thereafter, he took the risk of purchasing luxury cars for renting purposes. The decision was risky because he wasn’t aware of the consumer base but he thought of giving it a shot. Ramesh Babu purchased his first luxury car, a Mercedes Benz.

His company, Ramesh Tours and Travels Private Limited, now owns around 200 cars of including imported vehicles—a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, Mercedes C, E and S class and BMW 5, 6 and 7 series. Ramesh Babu still works as a barber occasionally; he gives haircuts for Rs. 75. He is known by the name, “Billionaire Barber.” Surely, he is one of the richest barbers in this country.
