Appearing in Bollywood since 2007, Rasika Dugal has performed various roles in Tv shows, web series and movies. For her brilliant role of Safia in the film Manto, She gained her first screen award nomination under Best Supporting Actress. Best of works include Mirzapur, Out of love, A suitable boy and Delhi crime.

Early life

Born on 17 January 1985, Daughter of Jessie And Raveen Dugal, Rasika Dugal belongs to Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. She graduated with a Bsc in Mathematics degree from the Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi. After which, she enrolled for a postgraduate diploma in Social communications media from Sophia Polytechnic. Later, she joined FTII for a postgraduate diploma in acting.

Currently, she inhabits Mumbai and is married to an actor Mukul Chadda.

Career

Initial days in Bollywood were quite harsh for Rasika Dugal. Cast in several films, including Anwar, No Smoking, Hijack, Tahaan and Agyaat, she played minor roles. In 2015, her character Neeli in the film Qissa was much applauded by both critics and the audience.
“A masterpiece that lovers of parallel cinema would thoroughly enjoy. This unconventional and heart-breaking folk tale captures human emotions, unlike any other recent Indian film.” Commented the critic’s censuses. Thereon, she also appeared in a Malayalam Film Kammatti Paadam.

Rasika Dugal’s recognition happened after her appearance in the Netflix film Lust Stories.
Her next film Manto and her character Safia got vital appraisals from the critics.

Subsequently, her part in the film Hamid which fetched her the Best Actor Award. Her enactment left an imprint on everyone.

Breakthrough

Rasika Dugal’s breakthrough took place in 2018 when she starred in the Amazon original series “Mirzapur“. As a result, for the role of Beena Tripathi, she got nominated for the Indian Television Academy Awards under the category of Best Actress – Web Series.

Her lead role of Dr Meera Kapoor, in the web series “Out of love”, young IPS officer in “Delhi Crime” and supporting roles in ” The suitable boy” and “OK computer” levelled her up.
Two of her films which got super successful in 2020 are Lootcase and Darbaan. Critics acclaimed her performances in both of these films.

How does Rasika compete with other actresses?

On asking about her competition with her contemporaries she replies “I have done not just different sorts of roles but also played different ages like Mirzapur’s Beena Tripathi and Delhi Crime’s Neeti Singh. Fortunately, I have had such variety of roles that I don’t know who I am competing with. It seems too many people, as I fall in several categories. It is a great thing for an actor. I don’t know who my competitors are. It kind of relives me of the burden of competitive spirit.”
