One of The Times Most Desirable women of 2020, Aaditi Pohankar, is an Indian actress who works in Bollywood films and web series. She debuted with the anthology film Love Sex Aur Dhokha and rose to fame with her roles in web shows She and Aashram. Apart from that, she has appeared in Tamil and Marathi films.
Early Life
Born on 31st December 1994, Aaditi is the daughter of Sudhir, former marathon runner and Shobha Pohankar, a national-level hockey player. Brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, she lived in a small family of four people: Her parents & sister Nivedita. Aaditi was very active from the very beginning. In the sport athletics, she represented Maharashtra and won medals in 100 meters and 200 meters races during her school days. She finalised her education through a graduate degree in commerce.
Career
Aaditi Pohankar started her career by performing in plays as a theatre artist. In the sequence of which, she met Satyadev Dubey in 2010. At his request, actor Makarand Deshpande became ready to mentor Aaditi as a stage performer. Along with that, she kept searching for roles in the films. Finally, Aaditi debuted in 2010 with Love Sex Aur Dhokha, an anthology film. The following year, She appeared in Kunasathi Kunitari, a Marathi film
Afterwards, Director Nishikant Kamat was amused seeing Aaditi perform in stage plays. He saw her playing the role of a seven-year-old boy in the play Time Boy. She was made to give two days of screen tests, after which Nishikant finalised her for the film Lai Bhaari in 2014. Director gave her absolute freedom to make the character as per her wish and talent. Aaditi visualised herself as “an evil person”. The film invited positive reviews, and Aaditi’s villainous character got appraisals on broad level. As a result, it became the most successful Marathi film till then.
Present
Aaditi, in the year 2016, made her entry in south cinema. She appeared in the film Gemini Ganeshanum Suruli Raajanum opposite actor Atharvaa. Following this, she signed the romantic drama Mannavan Vanthanadi. But the project delayed. In 2018, Aaditi got to know Director Imtiaz Ali and eventually got in touch. It was when he was screening for the film Laila Majnu. Imtiaz offered Aaditi to audition for the web series “She“. She played the lead role of a police constable who then went on a mission. Aaditi fakes being a prostitute to trap the villain and, in the process, explore her bold sexual features. The series and her character both gained critical appraisals. The series aired on Netflix in 2020.
Recently, in 2020, Aaditi starred in the web series Aashram. Opposite to actor Bobby Deol, she the role of a young wrestler who is attracted to the ashram. Preparing for the film, she learnt wrestling from trainer Sangram Singh. The series made her experience a Breakthrough. Both show and her performance got widely appraised
