Prithika DasAdil Hussain is an Indian actor who works in art house cinema and mainstream Bollywood, as well as international cinema. He has worked in various languages like English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian and French films.
Personal Life
Adil Hussain was born on 5th October 1963 in Golpara, Assam, India. Born into an Assamese Muslim family. His father was a teacher and Adil was the youngest of seven children. Adil also used to perform in school plays. He did his graduation from B. Borooah College, Guwahati, in Philosophy. He started acting in college plays and performing as a stand-up comedian. He also mimicked popular Bollywood actors in between the performances of a local stand-up comedian group, the Bhaya Mama Group. Later he also studied at the Drama Studio London on a Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship.
Career
Adil came back to India in 1994. Adil then joined a mobile theatre in Assam. He worked for a few years and moved to Delhi. He started his stage career in Delhi, though he continued training under Khalid Tyabji. As an actor, he first received acclaim in Othello: A Play in Black and White in the year 1999. He was also a visiting faculty of his school the National School of Drama. In the year 2004, he made his debut in Bengali film alongside Soha Ali Khan in the period drama Iti Srikanta, where he played the lead role. He also acted in a television show in a lead role for the detective series Jasoos Vijay.
He got his first significant role in Bollywood in the film Agent Vinod alongside Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. In the same year he an Italian film Gangor and also in films like The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Life of Pi. Adil also appeared in the comedy-drama English Vinglish alongside Sridevi. He also acted in Aditya Bhattacharya’s Bombay Most Wanted and Partho Sen-Gupta’s Sunrise. Adil played the role of Inspector K. N. Singh in the Ranveer Singh-Sonakshi Sinha Lootera under Vikramaditya Motwane’s direction.
In the year 2015, he acted in various industries and languages. His Hindi movies include Main Aur Charles as Amod Kant and Jai Ho Democracy as Major Baruah. He debuted in Tamil cinema with Yatchan portraying a significant role of Selvam/Vetri, He also worked in his first Marathi movie Sunrise as Joshi. His Bengali film of the year was Arindam Sil’s mystery thriller Har Har Byomkesh as Zamindar Deepnarayan Singh.

Apart from acting in various industries, and languages both Indian and International, Adil’s presence in Ott is also there. He acted in Netflix Original Web Series Delhi Crimes in 2019, and Zee 5’s Pareeksha in 2020. Hotstar’s Saving Chotu, Main Aur Charles, Love Sonia and many more.
Awards
Adil has worked in various industries both national and industries and his performance is really appreciated by audiences and critics. A few awards he won are Best Actor – New Jersey Independent South Asian Cine Fest for Lessons in Forgetting. Best Actor-Prag Cine Awards for Raag: The Rhythm of Love. He received National Film Awards (Special Jury) at the 2017 National Film Awards for Hotel Salvation and Maj Rati Keteki. He was nominated for Best Actor In A Supporting Role-Stardust Awards for Main Aur Charles and in IIFA Award for Best Actor for Mukti Bhawan.

Where does Adil Hussain live?
After his return to India in 1994, Hussain joined the mobile ‘Hangul Theater’ in Assam, where he worked for three years, before moving to Delhi.
