History

Electronic Arts Inc is an American video game company. The company was founded in 1982 by Apple employee Trip Hawkins. Initially, the company specialized in developing and marketing software games for home computers. EA experienced rapid growth in a swiftly expanding world market. They earn increasing 60 per cent annually between 1989 and 1994. EA published numerous games and some productivity software for personal computers. The game studio shifted towards internal game studios. EA was flexible from the beginning, developing its software for whatever computer hardware was most popular at the time. The first product was the software game Commodore Amiga, which turned out to be a very popular computer.

Way Towards Success

Famous EA games

In the 1980s was not a big industry as personal computers were not widespread yet. EA took a fresh approach to designing software, modelling the development and production more on the entertainment industry than on the software industry. Instead of hiring computer programmers, EA hired software graphic arts designers and producers. EA produces many games to increase the chance of success. In the year 1984, EA acquired marketing rights to develop by smaller outside companies through its Affiliated Labels program. One of the early hits was Doctor J and Larry Bird Go One on One. With the involvement of sports stars, the basketball game enjoyed healthy sales. To build its business, Electronic Arts had to aggressively upset the traditional rules of software publishing.

The Downfall

EA saw a downfall when the world of console video games started booming and that would undermine the whole industry. The Atari VCS/2600 home console had dominated the living rooms of every American since its introduction. In the console’s halcyon years, Atari poured millions of cartridges into retailers, feeding a customer base that was hungry for anything new to plug in. Atari’s success blossomed in a market that seemed limitless. Electronic Arts forced to revise its business plan in order to weather the lean years following the crash.

The Boom

With the downfall of Atari, EA started rebuilding and started creating and building brand recognition. The company started focusing on Popular sports figures to game properties and a series of licensed sports games followed, including Jordan vs. Bird: One on One, Ferrari Formula One, Richard Petty’s Talladega, and Earl Weaver Baseball. EA began its first in-house development with Skate or Die, which was published by Konami in 1988. Electronic Arts itself would not truly begin publishing console games until the era of the Sega Genesis.

Birth of EA Sports

EA published its first football title called Touchdown Football and it was very authentic. They spent two whole days on the train with him going over an incredibly long list of details about football and it helped me finish the design properly. The game officially released in 1988 and became EA sport’s best-selling game. The company lined up itself with a bunch of long-running games like the Strike series, NHL Hockey, NBA Live, FIFA Football and Road Rash.
